"(Merlot, cabernet sauvignon, shiraz) Deep, dark red colour with a good purple rim, and it smells invitingly of blackcurrant, blackberry, raspberry and fresh herbs. The acidity runs a tangy thread through the length of the palate and the wine has tremendous density, fleshy texture and high extract. Ample tannins, which are smooth and fleshy, supple and in perfect harmony. An outstanding wine which is set to age and improve over many years." *

The growing season started with a record wet winter. Spring was great, resulting in a good even bud burst and flowering. A record hot January and early February 2017 resulted in an early start for chardonnay harvest in late February. The seasons rain and cool weather in early March combined with excellent dry conditions allowed the red varieties to start the harvest mid-April. Resulting in moderate crops and produced excellent quality fruit. The fruit is from Block 9 at Koomooloo. The vines are 28-years old. The grapes were handpicked early in the morning, chilled, destemmed and fermented in small open pots (1-2T). 30% of whole bunch was added, the remainder destemmed. Fermentation with native yeasts was allowed to occur.
Barrels: 100% new, all French barriques from a range of coopers.
"A deep red colour, strong raspberry aromas showing power of fruit, but complex by fine oak. The flavour is intense of varietal merlot fruit characters, with lovely bright intense and very fine tannins. The wine has excellent balance and has great flavours now, but wait for a considerable time." PS
