The 2016 growing season was warm and dry. The spring rains set up the season and good rains in January allowed very good flavour development whilst maintaining natural acid. The vintage was a couple of weeks ahead of the typical. The hottest day for summer was 35.6°C. The fruit is from a range of blocks at Koomooloo. The grapes were handpicked early in the morning, chilled and whole bunch pressed (1200L basket press) to tank to remove heavy solids. The juice was racked to barrel later the same day.
Bright deep red with purple tints.
Full of raspberry fruits and integrated oak aroma. The flavours show strong cool area varietal fruits with oak in background adding complexity and attractive vanilla edge. The wines finishes with great balance, freshness and intense varietal fruit. PS
