Global Cabernet Franc Masters 2024 - 2019 Jade Moon - "GOLD"
The inaugural Global Cabernet Franc Masters competition took place on 11 January 2024 at London Bridge’s Novotel, London and the HOOSEGG 2019 Jade Moon Cabernet Franc won GOLD status - a brilliant wine that is a benchmark for its type. This wine has lasting appeal and shows great balance, complexity and intensity.

"Violets, Sweetheart cherries and a briar of thistle and shrub. A wine whose intoxicating perfume is overwhelming and often undersold. Cassis, blueberries and volcanic black rock. Tannins are sinewy and finely woven together to create a lacework of exalted texture. Salted licorice, cardamon and cocoa beans. A magnificent celebration of the variety crafted in a way that will continue to get better in the bottle. This wine sings a song of thriving vines, place and artistry." 96points Shanteh Wale - Halliday Wine Companion

In 2019 we experienced a dry winter on the back of a dry 2018. Spring was warm with little rain, setting us up for another compressed harvest. In the vineyard focus was to ensure vines evaded the effects of heat stress; loose canopies to allow shading and judicious watering where possible. Due to the lack of rain throughout the season we experienced lower than normal crops, however quality was ensured with small berries and intensity of flavour across the board. A great year. Fruit was picked from Block 2 at Koomooloo Vineyard, 29-year-old vines. The vines were shoot thinned and leaf plucked in spring and just prior to veraison (colour change of bunch) crop thinned (3 tonne/hectare). The fruit was handpicked and chilled overnight. Destemmed into open fermenter. Lightly plunged twice a day until spontaneous fermentation 4 days later, thenirrigated with sprinkler twice a day until near completion of fermentation, then plunged for a further 14 days. The fruit was pressed gently only, then transferred to 75% new French oak barrels. Racked once during 20 months in barrel then bottled.
"Deep red colour. Strong linear floral scent showing great Intensity and elegance. The wine has concentrated flavours, very fine elegant considerable amount of soft tannins. With great length and balance." Philip Shaw
