2017 Self Made-Up Man Red Blend
Single Bottle
No.1 ranked 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Blend in NSW (The Real Review, Huon Hooke)
"Deep, youthful purple/red colour, with a fragrant aroma incorporating floral fruit and talcy oak notes. The wine is deliciously fruit-laden, elegantly proportioned and beautifully balanced. A range of berry fruit flavours present themselves. A superb cabernet that should go on to build more layers with time.”

The growing season started with a record wet winter. Spring was great, resulting in a good even bud burst and flowering. A record hot January and early February 2017 resulted in an early start for chardonnay harvest in late February. The seasons rain and cool weather in early March combined with excellent dry conditions allowed the red varieties to start the harvest mid-April. Resulting in moderate crops and produced excellent quality fruit. The fruit was picked from a range of blocks at Koomooloo. 20% whole bunch, 80% destemmed open two-tonne fermenters. Both pumped over irrigation and also plunged depending on varietal, left on skins for 18 days and then pressed. Only lighter pressings included.
Deep red colour, strong intense complex aroma, showing great depth of fruit. Powerful complex fruits of merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon dominating. Shiraz helps to adds richness to the flavours, but Cab Franc adds fruit lift and brightness. The wine will further integrate with bottle age, but is currently showing intensity of fruit and great drinkability. 10-15 years carful cellaring. PS
